The Global Dark Night

What is the global dark night? In last week’s article I discussed the individual dark night of the soul, which usually occurs as a a result of unresolved trauma and the ensuing pain and suffering which, eventually, becomes unbearable and forces the individual to look deep within and purge themselves of all their inner demons.

Just as individuals can go through the dark night of the soul, this can also happen on a larger scale and it is happening to humanity as a whole in this very moment. The story of humanity is that of subjugation and control of one nation or ethnic group by another and the subjugation and control of nature.

There are countless examples of this including the Christian Crusades, British, French and Spanish colonization and genocide of indigenous people in various parts of the world, recent World Wars, the Vietnam war, the genocide of the countless dictators that have ruled on the planet, including Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot and the overall corrupt politics, corporations and financial institutions that usurp basic human rights, freedom, free speech and rule out world.

This is the reason why we are facing multiple crises including political instability, economic uncertainty, racial discrimination, child slavery and trafficking, devastation of our delicate ecosystems and climate change. This also causes disenfranchisement and alienation of those of us who are witness to the turmoil and disorder engulfing the planet and feel helpless to do anything about it. This why we are going though a global dark night of the soul of humanity.

The problem is that there are enough people on the planet who are content with the way things are and are willing to go about their daily lives and ignore the realities they see around them. This is because they have become comfortable with the current circumstances and are afraid to rock the boat because of the fear of the repercussions of questioning and confronting the status quo.

Until more of us do not wake up to the true reality of life on earth and to our true nature, we will continue to suffer through the global dark night, falling deeper into chaos and we will take those who want change with us. Therefore, the only way to emerge from the global dark night is twofold. First you must do your own inner work to purge yourself of your inner demons, like we discussed in the last article. Secondly, you must help those around you to wake up and know themselves at the deepest level, not superficially as their physical bodies, their thoughts, their emotions or their stories.

Individuals and humanity as a whole will continue to suffer until they realize that they no longer need to do so. The question for you is have you had enough suffering and have you witnessed enough suffering of those around you? If this is the case, then what are you willing to do and how far are you willing to go to end this suffering? The fate of humanity hangs in the balance and depends on your answer to this question. Reflect deeply on this and know that others feel exactly like you do and that there is strength in numbers.

The question for you is will you wake up before it is too late for you and for humanity as a whole?
